NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA
Rising nearly 2,200 meters above sea level, the Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact volcanic caldera on Earth, spanning 20 kilometers in diameter and plunging 600 meters to a wildlife-rich floor. From the Crater Rim, shadows of roaming animals drift across the plains below, while the rocky heights experience rare nighttime freezes, a unique encounter in Tanzania.
Situated in northern Tanzania, southeast of the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area stretches over 8,300 square kilometers, encompassing forests, grasslands, wetlands, lakes, and rivers. This extraordinary landscape also reveals humanity’s ancient past, with Olduvai Gorge and Laetoli preserving hominin remains dating back 3.6 and 2.1 million years.
Declared an independent conservation area in 1959 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, the land supports over 24,000 Masai, who graze cattle while safeguarding its natural wonders. Here, couples can share breathtaking vistas, witness the delicate dance of predators and prey, and feel the awe of a place where nature, history, and adventure meet in timeless harmony.
