Safari Overview
This 8-day Northern Tanzania safari covers approximately 1,030km and around 22.5 hours of drive time, taking you through Tarangire, Ngorongoro, Lake Eyasi and the vast Serengeti. Designed for UK adventure couples, this journey blends wildlife, culture, scenery and truly immersive moments that make you feel Africa rather than simply observe it. From the warmth of locally hosted lodges to some of the world’s greatest wildlife sightings, this experience delivers romance, discovery and a connection to the land that lingers long after the journey ends.
DAY 1: Arrival in Arusha → Tumbili Lodge (Pickup from JRO or Arusha Airport)
Upon arrival, you are met by your guide and transferred to Tumbili Lodge in Arusha. The peaceful garden surroundings and soft evening air allow you to decompress from your flight and shift into safari mode. You can enjoy a quiet dinner, unwind, and settle into a calm first night in Tanzania together before the adventure begins.
Accommodation: Tumbili lodge
DAY 2: Arusha → Tarangire National Park → Sangaiwe Tented Lodge (120km, 2.5h + 15km, 0.4h)
Your journey begins after breakfast with a scenic 120km (2.5-hour) drive to Tarangire National Park. The landscape quickly opens into golden savanna, dotted with ancient baobabs and river-fed wildlife corridors. Tarangire is famous for its large elephant herds, predators on the hunt, and vibrant birdlife. You spend the day tracking wildlife, spotting giraffes threading through trees, lions resting in the heat, and zebra herds grazing under open skies.
As the afternoon softens, you continue approximately 15km (40 minutes) to Sangaiwe Tented Lodge, where canvas tents face sweeping views of the valley. Enjoy a relaxed dinner and a night surrounded by quiet bush sounds—your first real introduction to the African wilderness as a couple.
Accommodation: Sangaiwe Tented Lodge
DAY 3: Tarangire → Karatu – Ngorongoro Coffee Lodge (75km, 1.5h)
After breakfast you drive 75km (1.5 hours) toward the elevated green landscapes of the Ngorongoro highlands. The scenery becomes richer and cooler as altitude increases, passing traditional Maasai settlements along the way. You arrive at Ngorongoro Coffee Lodge, where the smell of fresh coffee, gardens and plantation surroundings make the perfect afternoon retreat. Take time to rest, swim, enjoy the lodge atmosphere and simply slow down together before the next stage of the adventure.
Accommodation: Ngorongoro Coffee Lodge
DAY 4: Karatu → Lake Eyasi – Overnight at Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge (45km, 1h)
This morning you drive 45km (1 hour) to Lake Eyasi, a peaceful and little-visited region that gives travelers a deeper cultural connection to Tanzania. Here you meet the Hadzabe hunter-gatherers and the Datoga blacksmith tribe. Spend time learning about their daily lives, their skills, their tracking methods, and the traditions that have survived for generations. These interactions are meaningful, authentic, and stay with travelers long after they leave.
Dinner and overnight are at Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge, where you can watch evening light settle across the lake and enjoy the sense of space only remote Africa can offer.
Accommodation: Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge
DAY 5 & 6: Lake Eyasi → Serengeti National Park → Zuri Serengeti Camp (185km, 4.5h)
After breakfast, you travel approximately 185km (4.5 hours) through Ngorongoro Conservation Area and enter the legendary Serengeti, where wildlife moves in endless cycles and the horizon seems to stretch forever. As soon as you pass through the gates, safari becomes real—lions resting on kopjes, cheetahs scanning plains, wildebeest herds shifting with the seasons, hippos snorting in pools, elephants moving quietly through grass.
Across these two days, game drives unfold at a comfortable rhythm—sunrise mornings, golden evening drives and long open stretches where it’s just the two of you, your guide and the wild. Nights are spent at Zuri Serengeti Camp, where lantern light, shared dinners and the distant call of animals create moments couples never forget.
Accommodation: Zuri Serengeti Camp
DAY 7: Serengeti → Ngorongoro Highlands – Ngorongoro Coffee Lodge (175km, 4h)
After a final Serengeti morning, you depart and drive 175km (4 hours) back toward Ngorongoro. The return to the highlands feels refreshing after the open plains, and the lush vegetation and cooler air of Karatu provide a perfect place to relax and refresh. You return to Ngorongoro Coffee Lodge for your final evening, enjoying a peaceful dinner and time together to reflect on the journey so far.
Accommodation: Ngorongoro Coffee Lodge
DAY 8: Karatu → Kilimanjaro International Airport (190km, 3.5h)
After breakfast, you drive 190km (3.5 hours) back to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home. Your safari ends with deep memories—wildlife sightings, authentic cultural encounters, the emotional experience of seeing Africa together, and shared moments that strengthen connection and remind you why you travel.

He knows every detail of what somebody coming from Europe wants to see in Africa. One possibility to reduce long distance travels by car is to make part of the trip by plane, mainly the way back once you have finished the visit to the main parks. Altogether, the price-quality ratio is phantastic. Seif also speaks Spanish very very well and knows the specific names of all animals and birds in Spanish. Very recommended for Spanish tourists. We saw a lion chasing a wildebeest (the full sequence!).Posted on Christine J Unforgettable Safari and Getway After a safari with Sana wild experience I have certainly become a storyteller.
