SERENGETI NATONAL PARK

Serengeti National Park (30,000 square kilometers) is a part of the larger Serengeti ecoregion, which is 12,000 square miles in size and contains other smaller game reserves. In total, the park covers 5,700 square miles (14,750 sq km). The Serengeti receives its name from the Maasai phrase meaning “never-ending land.” The area is also known as the “endless plains.” These topographies consist of grassland plains, riverine forests, and woodlands. The park’s elevation ranges from 3,000 to 6,000 feet (914 to 1,828 m), despite its predominant vast plains terrain. The lions carved onto the granite formations evoke scenes from “The Lion King.”

It is practically mandatory to visit the Ngorongoro Crater, Mount Kilimanjaro, and the Serengeti when in Tanzania. Most of the time, guests will see all three of these at once. There is mutual benefit to the wildlife migrations between the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park. The borders of the national park divide the three regions that comprise the park. The primary location for wildebeest breeding is the Serengeti grasslands. A western corridor with black clay-coated savannahs is an additional option. Hippopotamuses and crocodiles are among the creatures that inhabit this area. The nearby hippo pool is one of the best places to see hippos in this area.

In addition to lions and leopards, other predators to watch out for are African wild dogs, cheetahs, and hyenas. Because the terrain is so open, most of the predator species found in the park are presumably visible. Generally speaking, keep an eye out for a convoy of safari vehicles that are on their way to locate lions or leopards. For any wildlife fan, a visit to the Serengeti’s largest uninterrupted animal migration is a must. More than 1.3 million wildebeest, 250,000 zebra, 500 gazelles, and tens of thousands of other species are part of this year’s migration. As a result, the migration was named one of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders.
